Maren Meinert, Germany coach
I want to acknowledge what a great team France have and, because of that, it makes me twice as happy to have won today. Our girls gave everything and in some situations we got lucky. We were certainly lucky that our goalkeeper gave such an exceptional performance. We probably played a better match in last year's European Championship semi-final and were unlucky [to lose 2-1 to France], whereas it was the opposite case today. But this team lives off being a great unit and, if there hadn't been such good teamwork from us today, maybe we would have lost. The game against Nigeria is not comparable and we will focus on that tomorrow, but today we'll just enjoy having made such a major step by qualifying for the final.
*Gilles Eyquem, France coach *I think it was a really high-level match and our players did their very best, but the end result is that Germany have won. Since the beginning of the competition, we've been missing lots of opportunities and that was the story again today. We suffered from a lack of efficiency. Germany didn't steal this result. They have a great team and, while we have great technical qualities, they have a very strong attack. The last time we met [in the last four of the European finals], Germany played very well and we won. This time, it was us who played excellently and they who won. It was a very good match but I don't think it can be called the final before the final because Nigeria deserve to be there and Germany will find it tough against them.
