Official song for Papua New Guinea 2016

'Kumul Susa’, by popular PNG artists Mereani Masani and Dadiigii, is the Official Song of this year’s FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Papua New Guinea. Mereani Masani and Dadiigii performed the song for the first time at the Opening Ceremony of the Fan Zone on Saturday 12th November.

Written by Dadiigii, ‘Kumul Susa’ features over 16 different local indigenous instruments unique to PNG and also 4 different local dialects, however is mainly sung in English and Pidgin, the main languages of PNG. All this has been blended with a more modern pop sound in order to create a song that will resonate with an international audience whilst still showcasing the uniqueness of Papua New Guinea.

“We needed a song that was modern and progressive, but at the same time reflected PNG’s unique culture, we needed a song that was fast and upbeat and would appeal to the youth given this is a FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, and we also needed a song that would embody the Official Slogan of the tournament, which is “To Inspire To Excel”. We feel ‘Kumul Susa’ embodies all of this and I look forward to hearing the song played during the event,” said Mr David Chung, PNG Football Association President.

“We are honoured and proud that ‘Kumul Susa’ is the Official Song of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup being hosted here in PNG,” said Dadiigii. “It’s a special event for our country and we hope that ‘Kumul Susa’ and this tournament will inspire young people all over PNG, but especially young women that they can excel in all that they do”, said Mereani Masani.
