Anouschka Bernhard, Germany coach I’m disappointed with the result. But I’m also very proud of my players, because that was one of the best matches I’ve ever seen at this level. We had a huge number of chances and had complete control of the match at times, and we’re left with the kind of feeling you get when you lose a match. But picking up a point against an excellent Canada team can only be a good thing. We’re capable of creating so many chances and playing really nice football, so our finishing problem is not a technical issue. We need to work on our final ball, and we weren’t focused enough when we had those early opportunities. As for the chances near the end, we were too nervous, as we knew that we really had to score. And we also came up against a very good Canadian goalkeeper, so there are actually quite a few reasons behind us not scoring more goals.
Beverly Priestman, Canada coachI’m proud of my team and how they played from the first minute to the last. Look, we didn’t exactly play like Brazil at times, but there were certainly moments where we played in the style that will mark the future of our national side and in a way that’s brought us success in the past. The difference between us and Germany was principally physical, and that began to tell at the start of the second half. But taking into account what a powerful team they are, this draw is a good result for us.
