THE DAY REPLAYED – The seventh and final day of group-stage action at the Women’s Youth Olympic Futsal Tournament Buenos Aires 2018 turned out as expected, with Spain and Portugal maintaining their 100 per cent records and finishing top of their groups.
The Lusitanians beat already-qualified Japan, pipping their opponents to first place in Group D. Although they did not find it easy in CeNARD Hall against a resolute Japanese side, they dug deep to claim victory courtesy of goals from Beatriz Sanchez and the skilful Telma Pereira, and kept a clean sheet to boot.
Spain, playing in the Main Futsal Hall, had an easier time of things, firing a remarkable 16 goals past Trinidad and Tobago.
Captain Antia Perez, who was rested for the previous match, led the way for La Roja, scoring no fewer than five goals, while five of her team-mates helped themselves to braces.
Elsewhere, Chile and Dominican Republic produced the most entertaining encounter of the day, which ended in an exciting 3-3 draw.
The CONCACAF representatives, cheered on by the Argentinian fans, led for the majority of the match, but when they reached the accumulated fouls limit, the referee awarded a direct free-kick from the second penalty mark, which Sonya Keefe dispatched for Chile with 1.8 seconds left on the clock.
Finally, Thailand secured a comfortable victory over Tonga, who head home without any points, but with smiles on their faces, having learned a lot and won over the local supporters, who got behind them and saw them off with a standing ovation.

Portugal produced the greatest number of shots during the group stage: 244. That figure equates to an average of 61 shots per game, or 1.52 per minute.
