Brazil-Australia: Quotes

Tom Sermanni, Australia coach It was a low-scoring game but there were plenty of chances out there. Both sides really went at it and there was a lot of attacking. I’m a little disappointed because we had our opportunities and didn’t take them. We wanted to take the game to Brazil, to attack them and show that we can compete with the best sides in the world. Tactically and technically Brazil are one of those teams, so in that respect I’m happy.

Kleiton Lima, Brazil coach Australia are a quick, young side who are very well coached. Tom Sermanni did a great tactical job. We didn’t want to get caught out in the first half so we set out with a more defensive approach. We wanted to stay tight on them, but our passing is where we made most of our mistakes. We couldn’t keep hold of the ball. In the second half we managed to restrict their possession and we saw more of the ball, which is what you’d expect from a Brazil side. Luckily we got the goal in a very demanding and even game and that’s put us at ease.

Rosana, Brazil forward and Player of the Match We knew it was going to be a tricky game but Brazil showed their fighting spirit and that’s why we won. The team fought really hard and that helped us impose ourselves. I’m delighted to be part of the national side and I’m very grateful for this opportunity. My job’s to help Brazil, and if I can score a goal, then it makes me even happier. I’d like to dedicate it to my team-mates because it was just as important to get a goal today as not let one in.
