USA complete FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011 line-up

USA have claimed the final berth at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011™. The number one team in the FIFA Women’s World Ranking sealed their ticket to Germany with a 1-0 victory over Italy in the second leg of the final play-off on Saturday 27 November 2010.

The 16-strong starting field for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011 is thus complete, right on time for the Official Draw on 29 November 2010 at Frankfurt Congress Center. The draw for the first FIFA Women’s World Cup in Germany will be broadcast live on ZDF television from 19:25.

Alongside Olympic gold medallists USA, and hosts and FIFA world champions Germany, the sixth FIFA Women’s World Cup will feature Equatorial Guinea, Australia, Brazil, Korea DPR, England, France, Japan, Canada, Colombia, Mexico, New Zealand, Nigeria, Norway and Sweden.

“Even though USA have only qualified for the finals at the last minute, they still remain favourites to win the trophy. Plenty of teams in World Cup history have struggled in qualifying but gone on to win the trophy. Maybe USA will write another chapter in their footballing history,” commented OC President Steffi Jones, who has sent a fax message of congratulation to United States Soccer Federation (USSF) President Sunil Gulati.

“This means the tournament will feature all of the top ten nations in the FIFA Women’s World Ranking, underlining the quality on offer and guaranteeing plenty of exciting and high-class matches,” Jones continued.
