Steffi Jones meets FIFA President

On Monday 29 March 2010, OC President Steffi Jones was welcomed by FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter for their first official meeting at the Home of FIFA in Zurich.

The FIFA President received an update on the progress the OC has made in its preparations for the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup 2010 and the FIFA Women's World Cup 2011™, with the focus on organisation, ticketing and marketing. A number of upcoming milestones, including the draw for the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup on 22 April in Dresden, were also discussed.

Aside from the two forthcoming FIFA tournaments in Germany, the strategic development of women's football and the international promotion of the sport at grassroots level were also on the agenda.

The FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter said: “It is clear that Germany will definitely mark a further milestone in women’s football. The women’s game is growing every day and with the great contribution of Germany organising an outstanding Women’s World Cup, the world will be able to see that football knows no gender but only one language, the universal one.”

"The FIFA President is a great advocate of women's football and has played a major part in the worldwide development of the sport. The 2010 U-20 Women's World Cup and the 2011 Women's World Cup will give us the chance to showcase women’s football on a unique stage in the heart of Europe, thus making a significant contribution to the growing popularity of our sport worldwide," commented Jones.
