FIFA Women’s World Cup rouses the crowds: 670,000 tickets already sold
With ten days still to go until the opening match at Berlin Olympic Stadium, 670,000 tickets have been sold for the 32-match FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011. The figure, representing 75 per cent of the 900,000 tickets available for general sale, was announced on Thursday by Local Organising Committee (LOC) President Steffi Jones at German FA (DFB) headquarters in Frankfurt am Main.
At least 10,000 tickets have been sold for 30 of the 32 games and 15 matches have secured a crowd of over 20,000, a good indication of the broad appeal of the first FIFA Women’s World Cup to be held in Germany.
“We’re very upbeat about this tremendous response, which confirms that the Women’s World Cup is proving a hit in Germany,” commented Jones. "We’re well on course to meet our target of filling the stadiums to 80 per cent of capacity."

Apart from purchases from Germany, accounting for 90 per cent of the total, ticket orders have been received from 50 other countries, including Tanzania, Bolivia, Fiji and Lebanon. Furthermore, the OC Ticketing Centre has processed a number of applications on behalf of expat communities in Germany, with Japanese, Brazilian and American groups leading the way.
“Throughout our Welcome Tour, which we successfully concluded in Japan last week with our 15th stop, we were repeatedly reminded of the tournament’s huge international appeal. We’ll be welcoming fans drawn from a wide variety of cultures, which will undoubtedly enrich the tournament,” Jones continued.

Additionally, tickets can be purchased at the ticket offices and the Stadium Ticket Centres in the venues. The Stadium Ticket Centres will open two days before each game.
