Commerzbank named National Supporter of the FIFA Women's World Cup 2011
Commerzbank is the second confirmed National Supporter of the FIFA Women's World Cup 2011™, it was announced at the unveiling of the Official Slogan on Wednesday 22 April 2009 at the Commerzbank Tower in Frankfurt.
"We're delighted to assume an active role, helping the FIFA Women's World Cup 2011 to create excitement and energy similar to those unleashed by the 2006 FIFA World Cup. The World Cup in 2006 emphatically underlined football's key societal role and integrative porwer. Commerzbank feels equally committed to these values.," commented Commerzbank AG Chairman of the Board of Managing Directors Martin Blessing.
As a German FA (DFB) Premium Partner, Commerzbank already supports the men's and women's national teams, and the DFB's youth development programmes. "Commerzbank's commitment to women's football has been a story of unbroken success for many years now. Looking ahead to the FIFA Women's World Cup 2011, and especially the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup 2010, we'd like more girls and young women to become passionate about football," added Member of the Board of Managing Directors Markus Beumer.
Steffi Jones similarly regards the sponsorship with Commerzbank as a logical next step in a "long-term love affair". I know Commerzbank extremely well from my time with FFC Frankfurt. The bank began supporting us at a time when many people had no interest in women's football whatsoever. It has already made a major contribution to the development and growing popularity of our sport. In terms of the FIFA Women's World Cup 2011, I'm delighted we'll be working together, and I'm sure the partnership will achieve a great deal for the sustainable long-term development of the women's game in Germany," the Organising Committee President said.
Commerzbank joins Deutsche Telekom as a National Supporter of the FIFA Women's World Cup 2011. FIFA and OC plan calls for six National Supporters for 2011.
