Martina Voss-Tecklenburg is to leave Switzerland's women's team to take over as Germany coach after the FIFA Women's World Cup campaign ends in September, it has today been confirmed.

The former Germany international, who won 125 caps for the team and helped them to two European titles, is aiming to lead the Swiss to a second successive Women's World Cup before making the switch.

Interim coach Horst Hrubesch, who took charge of the Germans following the sacking of Steffi Jones, will remain in charge of the two-time world champions in the meantime.

"I am very much looking forward to this challenge and the exciting task ahead of us, " said Voss-Tecklenburg, speaking on the DFB's official website. The 50-year-old also confirmed that she will be assisted by Britta Carlson, another former Germany international.

DFB Vice-President Hannelore Ratzeburg said: "With Martina Voss-Tecklenburg and Britta Carlson, we have a duo that knows all the facets of women's football, both of whom have worked extremely well independently over the past few years."

Germany and Switzerland are both firmly in the hunt for places at next year's Women's World Cup. The Swiss top Group 2 having won all five of their games thus far, while Germany - after a shock early defeat to Iceland - have recovered to ascend to the summit of Group 5. They are now two points clear of the Icelanders, who nonetheless still have a game in hand.
