Sheroes: The mother who sees the game for her son

  • Our 'Sheroes' video series will highlight some amazing women off the pitch

  • The first is the heartwarming story of Brazilian mother Silvia Grecco

  • She narrates entire matches to her blind and autistic son inside the stadium

When you are a fan, there is something special about celebrating a goal in football. That is no less true for Nickollas Grecco, who is a massive Palmeiras supporter… and blind.

But Nickollas would not appreciate the game nearly as much as he does if were not for his mother, Silvia, who takes him to the matches and narrates them for her adoring son.

“I talk him through every play,” she told us. “I go into details about the atmosphere, the characteristics of each player – if he has dyed hair, long sleeves, the colour of his boots – and narrating goals is without doubt the most emotional part."

Spotlight on the Sheroes The joy you can see on her son’s face in the video above is just one example of how Sheroes make the world and the game a better place.

So, in honour of 2019, which some are calling ‘The Year of Women’s Football’ ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup™, we are proud to bring you a series of video stories focusing on females with inspirational stories that fuse ‘The Beautiful Game’ and love.

The tender and emotional story of Silvia and Nickollas is the first in a six-part series. Please come back to FIFA.com for more!
