Women’s World Cup trophy to visit Madrid

The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015 Live Your Goals Tour is kicking off its journey around Planet Football in the capital of Spain. With 24 national teams set to battle it out for the coveted trophy between 6 June and 5 July 2015, it will tour each and every participating nation over the coming months – Madrid being its first port of call.

Topping the list of priorities of the tour are promoting the FIFA Women’s World Cup™, spreading the message of the Live Your Goals campaign, boosting interest in women’s football and helping the competing nations’ football associations with their future development of the discipline.

On Saturday between 18.00 and 20.00 local time and on Sunday between 12.00 and 14.00, fans can come down to the Corte Ingles Castellana and have their photo taken with the trophy. Joining them there will be Spain internationals from leading domestic side Atletico de Madrid Feminas.

And there is more. In honour of such a distinguished visit, on Saturday at Las Rozas Ciudad del Fútbol (City of Football), the headquarters of the Spanish Football Association (RFEF), a workshop will be held on the current state of the women’s game. In addition, detailed information will be given on Spain’s senior squad’s preparations for Canada 2015 and key factors for the sport’s future development will be discussed.

The conference, which is open to the public (until full capacity is reached), begins at 10.00 in the morning and will be attended by Spain coach Vicente del Bosque and his women’s football counterpart Ignacio Quereda – the man who masterminded La Roja’s first qualification for the Women’s World Cup. Also in attendance will be Alejandro Blanco, President of the Spanish Olympic Committee.

Next on the agenda will be the opportunity to watch some of Spain’s finest women’s players in league action, with a meeting between fourth-placed Atletico Feminas and third-placed Athletic Club, kicking off at 11.45 - also on Saturday - at the Mini Estadio Cerro del Espino en Majadahonda, Madrid. Entrance is free.

The next stop on the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015 Live Your Goals Tour will be 11 January in China PR. The Live Your Goals campaign’s objective is to support the development of women’s football and boost the sport, with a view to ensuring that each day more and more girls and women across the world are able to play the game.
