65 days to go

65,000 fans filled Guangzhou’s Tianhe Stadium for the first ever match at a FIFA Women's World Cup™ on 16 November 1991. Led by Liu Ailing's brace, tournament hosts China PR beat Norway 4-0 to kick off the competition.

Norway overcame that initial hurdle, however, and ultimately reached the Final, while China PR bowed out in the quarter-finals. USA beat the Scandinavian side 2-1 at the same stadium in Guangzhou to take hoist the inaugural Women's World Cup in front of 63,000 spectators.
