OC unveils FIFA Women's U-20 World Cup logo in Bielefeld

Exactly 292 days before the start of the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup on 13 July 2010 in Bochum, the Organising Committee will be officially kicking off the tournament, which will feature the world's best young women players, on Thursday in the Bielefeld Arena. The high-point of the event will be the presentation of the official logos and the ambassador duo for the city of Bielefeld which will be hosting the Final of the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup on 1 August 2010. The other locations for the tournament are Augsburg and Dresden.

"Bielefeld has everything it needs to be the perfect host for the U-20 Women's World Cup," said OC President Steffi Jones. "This tournament is a high-quality event where talented young female players will be taking part. As well as providing seamless organisational processes, it is our duty as OC to create a good atmosphere within the stadiums."

Among the guests of honour at the evening will be Mayor of Bielefeld Eberhard David, German football federation (DFB) vice-president Hannelore Ratzeburg, Hans-Hermann Schwick who is chairman of the DSC Arminia Bielefeld club, DFB coach Maren Meinert, TV host Oliver Welke, 2009 UEFA Euro winner Kerstin Stegemann and U-20 international Marina Hegering. "Augsburg, Bielefeld, Bochum and Dresden can look forward to some exciting matches," Jones continued, "as there will be any number of players at the tournament who will be looking to stake their claim for a place at the 2011 World Cup."

The most recent FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, held in 2008 in Chile, was an unqualified success, creating enormous interest both among fans and the media. The 32 matches at the tournament attracted a total of 351,309 spectators at an average of almost 11,000 per game.
