Steffi Jones travels to Chile

After unveiling the official logo of the FIFA Women's World Cup on 19 April in Berlin, OC President Steffi Jones is journeying to the other side of the world to Chile to promote women's football.

The 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup winner will be in Santiago and Temuco from 30 April - 5 May to take part in the various events leading up to the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, being held from 19 November - 7 December 2008 in Chile.

Together with representatives of the country's Football Association and government, Steffi Jones will perform the official launch of the first ever Chilean women's football league as well as the national U-15 tournament.

The OC President will then be taking part in a workshop with Chile's women's team coach Marta Tejedor and former Italian international Carolina Morace. She is also scheduled to meet local football legend Elias Figueroa and visit a training centre for disadvantaged girls in the FIFA Women's World Cup Host City of Temuco.

"At the end of January, I already had the opportunity to see how the preparations were coming along for the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in New Zealand. Now I am really looking forward to my trip to Chile. There is real enthusiasm for women's football down there thanks to the U-20 World Cup," said Jones, who will be visiting South America for the first time.

The FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup is the first big women's football tournament to be held in Chile, though the country already organised the 1962 FIFA World Cup™ and the 1987 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
