A pair of second-half strikes from Jordyn Huitema and Lara Kazandjian led Canada to a 2-0 victory over Korea Republic in Group D at the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Uruguay 2018 and sealed their qualification to the quarter-finals.

Korea Republic started the match on top, creating the majority of the goalscoring chances. Captain Cho Mijin came closest to breaking the deadlock when her shot from the top of the penalty area struck the crossbar.

Huitema scored her second goal of the tournament in the 59th minute when she capitalised on a poor clearance from Korea Republic goalkeeper Kang Jiyeon, hitting a volley high into the air before it bounced into the far corner of the Korean goal.

The towering Canadian forward was then sent off with a straight red card in the 67th minute for a challenge on Kim Minji.

Despite going down a player, Canada doubled their lead thanks to a cultured, left-footed long-range strike from the diminutive midfielder Kazandjian.

The victory meant the Canadians have qualified for the last-eight for the fourth time in their history in the competition.
