Quotes: USA-Paraguay

USA coach B.J. Snow They're 14, 15 or 16 years old, so you never know how they're going to react. Playing at a World Cup is something new for them. We were worried about how they'd deal with the match and we tried to make sure they were calm. They responded very well. One of the things we try to teach to our players is humility and to try to ensure they don't get too high or too low. One thing that makes this tournament different is that it's the first time for everybody, so that makes it hard to know about the other teams. In the group stage at least we have to just focus on ourselves and take it game by game. We have to adapt to what the teams in our group throw at us because each of them is unique, with very different characteristics. From tomorrow onwards, we'll start preparing for our game against Ghana.

Paraguay coach Nestor Basualdo We can have no complaints about the result because USA were much better than us. They controlled the ball throughout the game and thoroughly deserved to win. Given what we saw today we have to improve in every area. They were stronger, faster and played better. We have to improve in order to have any chance against Japan, because they're a really good team too. We have to recognise that the sides in our group are from countries where women's football is very developed, whereas we're only just starting out. That was noticeable in this game. Today our players were a little bit off the level they were at during our warm-up games.
