FIFA Inspection Visit in Korea Republic

The second leg of the FIFA Inspection Tour for the Bidding Countries 2018 and 2022 in Korea Republic came to an end today, Sunday, 25 July 2010. The FIFA Team – 5 persons, chaired by Harold Mayne-Nicholls – spent three days in the country, visiting Seoul, Ulsan and Daegu. They inspected various sites including the Seoul World Cup Stadium, Ulsan Munsu Stadium, optional Team Hotels, Fan Fest sites and possible locations for various side events and functions. On Friday evening the delegation attended a dinner hosted by the President of the Republic of South Korea, Lee Myung-Bak.

“We had a pleasant stay and an intense programme. We are very confident with the structures in place. The legacy of the 2002 FIFA World Cup™ is present everywhere”, said Harold Mayne-Nicholls, the Head of the FIFA Delegation, at a press briefing in Seoul. “And we also had time to learn something about the country’s history and its people. It was a good experience.” Han Sung-Joo, the Chairman of the Korean Bidding Committee, summarized: “We wanted to show our ability and readiness to host a World Cup in 2022. And that the whole country looks forward to the project. I trust, that we have achieved this.”
