USA are seeking a successor to Jurgen Klinsmann after the former Germany international was relieved of his duties as national team coach and Technical Director on Monday. The 1990 FIFA World Cup™ winner’s reign began in July 2011 and during his time as manager, the former striker notably guided the Stars and Stripes to a record 12-game winning streak in 2013, as well as advancing to the Round of 16 at the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil.

USA have, though, found life difficult in CONCACAF’s final World Cup qualifying round. The Americans currently sit bottom of the six-team group, often referred to as ‘the hexagonal’, having lost their opening two fixtures, first against rivals Mexico before suffering a 4-0 rout at the hands of Costa Rica.

“While we remain confident that we have quality players to help us advance to Russia 2018, the form and growth of the team up to this point left us convinced that we need to go in a different direction,” said US Soccer President Sunil Gulati.

“We want to thank Jurgen for his hard work and commitment during these last five years. He took pride in having the responsibility of steering the program, and there were considerable achievements along the way.”

USA next meet Honduras in World Cup qualifying for Russia 2018 on 24 March, before facing Panama four days later.
