Russia wins the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2011

On 11 September, the Russian national beach soccer team won the gold medal at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2011.

During the tournament, which took place in Ravenna, Italy, Russia scored confident wins over all the opponents: Nigeria, Tahiti, Venezuela, Mexico and El Salvador. And in the finals, the Russian team beat Brazil, the recognized world leaders of beach soccer, by 12-8. For the first time in history the Russian team is the best on the planet. Team captain Ilya Leonov was awarded the adidas Golden Ball for best player in the Сhampionship, and Andrei Bukhlitsky won the adidas Golden Glove for best goalkeeper.
