98 days to go: France's crowning glory

The 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ is getting closer - 98 days to go!

In less than four months – on 14 June, to be precise – the 21st FIFA World Cup kicks off at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium as the hosts take on Saudi Arabia.

That leaves us plenty of time to enjoy a countdown. Between now and the start of the World Cup, we will take a closer look at a different statistic from the history of the tournament each day.

98 - It is 20 years since France won the World Cup as hosts. In 1998 captain Didier Deschamps and his Equipe Tricolore won their first world title and became the sixth team to lift the Trophy in front of a home crowd after Uruguay (1930), Italy (1934), England (1966), Germany (1974) and Argentina (1978).
