Emblem a hit in Russia

Sixty-five per cent of Russians questioned have given a thumbs-up to the striking Official Emblem for the 2018 FIFA World Cup™. The results were subject of an opinion poll conducted by the Russian Public Opinion Research Centre (WCIOM) and commissioned by the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the tournament.

The Official Emblem was presented on 28 October, and has quickly amassed numerous admirers. The poll was conducted in November, with 1,600 Russians across 130 towns and cities participating.

The Official Emblem was particularly welcomed by a younger audiences (18- to 24-year-olds), with 74 per cent of them approving.

Commenting on its design, 71 per cent of those surveyed noted its connection with football (the ball, players and World Cup Trophy, which is the most recognisable in sport). The colours of the emblem, which are associated with the country’s history – gold, red and light blue – were also noticed by 68 per cent of respondents. Finally, 68 per cent of Russians taking part in the survey said they identified an atmosphere of a vivid and emotional football festival expressed in the Official Emblem.

It is the main element of the tournament's official symbolism. As well as the Official Emblem, the 2018 World Cup brand was also presented, reflecting traditional Russian images: the troika, Russian ballet, fairytale motifs and images from the Cosmos.
