2018 Russia Organising Committee visits the Preliminary Draw
The LOC delegation had an opportunity to have a hands on experience on the preparations for the first official event of the 2014 World CupTM. The 2018 LOC delegates watched the operations of the 1500 staff and 600 volunteers involved in the event, observed the media centre operations, participated in the Teams Seminar for the participating member associations.
As part of the Observer program in Brazil the 2018 FWC organizers had meetings with their colleagues from Brazil LOC. The delegation also visited the construction site of the glorious Maracana stadium that hosted the final match of the 1950 FIFA World CupTM. In 1977 the stadium welcomed a record number of over 162 000 spectators for a FIFA WC qualifier between Brazil and Colombia.
Apart from the official program, the Russian LOC put an information stand for the journalists in the media center for the 2014 FWC Preliminary Draw in Marina da Gloria. The journalists came here to speak with the Russian delegation and ask questions about the first steps of the preparations for the 2018 FIFA World CupTM in Russia.

- This visit was extremely important for us as the next organisers of the Preliminary Draw for the 2018 World CupTM in Russia. The Brazil Organising Committee did a very professional job and delivered a great event. We got a lot of insights and experience in Rio-de-Janeiro. We will continue to work closely with the Brazil LOC to share experience and deliver a succesfull Preliminary Draw in Russia in 2015.
After the Preliminary Draw in Rio-de-Janeiro on July 30, 2011, Russia finds itself in the Group F with Portugal, Israel, Northern Ireland, Azerbaijan and Luxembourg.
