No Ticket Sales before Christmas 2004

Sales of the 3.2 million tickets for the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany™ will not begin before Christmas 2004. This was confirmed by Horst R. Schmidt, vice-president of the FIFA World Cup Organising Committee, during the annual meeting of the supervisory board of the German Football Association (DFB).

Schmidt went on to say: "Everybody will be expecting a high-tech World Cup in 2006, so using conventional tickets will not really suffice. Even more importantly, we need to ensure that the tickets and entry systems to the stadia work reliably for the 2006 FIFA World Cup and that they have long-term usability".

Schmidt also assured the board that, with a mere four years until the opening match, all preparations are progressing at full speed.

"We're ahead of the FIFA schedule", said Schmidt and reaffirmed: "The 2002 FIFA World Cup™ was close to perfect. We will try to surpass that. It is our goal to stage the best-organised FIFA World Cup ever."

This certainly looks possible, given that the twelve host venues as well as the date and location of the draw for qualification (5 December 2003 at the Frankfurt Festhalle) were determined by the OC before the FIFA deadline.

The Official Emblem for the 2006 FIFA World Cup will be unveiled on 19 November at the AufSchalke Arena in Gelsenkirchen.
