On this day in 1994, Russia v. Cameroon (6-1) featured three different records: Russia's Salenko scored five goals, the highest number in a single FWC match; Cameroon's Roger Milla became the oldest player and oldest goalscorer at a FIFA World Cup at 42 years and 39 days.

On this day in 1958, France defeated Germany FR 6-3 in a semi-final with four goals scored by Just Fontaine; the French forward was the tournament's top scorer with 13 goals, still the highest number of goals netted in a single edition of the FIFA World Cup™.

On this day in 1998, France's Laurent Blanc scored the first golden goal in FIFA World Cup history in a round-of-16 match against Paraguay (113th minute).
