Sweden's Allback scores 2000th FIFA World Cup goal
Sweden's Markus Allback scored the 2000th goal of FIFA World Cup history when he equalised against England on 20 June 2006 in Cologne.
Four years ago, Christian VIERI's (ITA) goal in Italys 2-1 golden-goal defeat at the hands of Korea Republic on 18 June 2002 in Daejeon, Korea, was the 1900th goal scored in the history of the FIFA World Cup finals. Earlier in the same tournament, Portugal's BETO was the man behind the 1800th goal in FIFA World Cup finals history, scoring his team's second goal in the 39th minute of their defeat to the USA.
Among the scorers of historical FIFA World Cup goals are illustrious names such as Angelo SCHIAVIO (ITA, 100th in 1934), Gerd MUELLER (FRG, 800th in 1970), Jean-Pierre PAPIN (FRA, 1200th in 1986) and Gary LINEKER (ENG, 1300th also in 1986).
