For 14 referees and 28 assistant referees – including the 15 officials in the support and development group – the World Cup will come to an end when they return home on 30 June. "For some referees, the World Cup is now over, but for others, the adventure continues," said Villar Llona. "I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every official for their wonderful performances. I am proud of them. On the whole, I have been very happy with the performances of the match officials, even though they were not always error-free, something that is impossible to achieve. So far, the main objective – to protect the players – has been accomplished."
