Media invitation to the Women's Football Day

These days it might seem that football can not possibly become any bigger than it already is. Well guess what … it is! Women's football is on the rise worldwide. The sport is increasing its participation, recognition and television audiences. More and more people from every walk of life are coming to appreciate the beauty and skill this game has to offer. adidas, the world's leading football brand, supports the game wherever it is being played, shared and celebrated and is firmly committed to supporting women's football around the globe!

adidas is dedicating June 22 to Women's football as part of its 2006 FIFA World Cup activities at the adidas World of Football in Berlin. One major part of this event will be highlighting the development of women's football over the last decades and FIFA's major role in supporting its development from grassroots to world-class level. FIFA will open with a welcoming message from FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter followed by a brief presentation by Mary Harvey, FIFA Director of Development, and former FIFA Women's World Cup winner, on the growth of women's football as well as FIFA's activities to support its development.

The day's activities will range from girls football coaching sessions, a girls football event (age 14-16) with 16 competing teams to a meet and greet with the defending FIFA Women's World Cup Champions, the DFB National Team as well as Chinese national female football icon Sun Wen. One of the main features will be the presentation of the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup Match Ball by Sun Wen as one of China's national team players and FIFA's ambassador for women's football. Nan Yong, vice-president and head of the Organizing Committee of the FIFA Women's World Cup China 2007, will invite the audience to visit next year's event in China.
