FIFA World Cup™ 1982-2006 - avg attendance 2006 now exceeding 52,000

The 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany™ is recording the second-highest attendance figures in the history of the competition. The mark set by the FIFA World Cup USA 1994 is unlikely to be reached ever again.

The first ever match in a World Cup final competition to be decided on penalties was a semi-final showdown between Germany and France, played on that fateful day, 8 July 1982 – a day that will be eternally regretted by the French.
