Disciplinary Matters: Cautions, Expulsion, Fines
The most important points regarding cautions and expulsions imposed during the 2006 FIFA World Cup are the following:
If a player receives a yellow card in two matches in the same phase of the competition (i.e. group phase or knock-out phase), he will be suspended from his team's next match.
If a player receives one yellow card in the group phase, it will not be carried over to the knockout phase.
If a player is sent off as the result of a direct red card or two yellow cards during the same match, he will automatically be suspended from his team's next match.
Any suspension (as a result of a direct red card or two yellow cards in the same match) that cannot be served during the competition will be carried over to the association's next competitive match.
Simulation will be sanctioned with a fine of CHF 5,000.
A red card (whether direct or indirect as a result of two yellow cards in the same match) will incur a fine of at least CHF 5,000.
A caution for pulling an opponent's shirt will incur a fine of CHF 5,000.
