Charlton play down Young fears

Charlton Athletic manager Alan Curbishley played down fears on Monday that captain Luke Young could miss out on a place in England's FIFA World Cup™ squad through injury.

Curbishley and Young were quoted as suggesting the full-back might not play again this season due to an ankle injury but on Monday Curbishley said the versatile defender could be back in first-team action by 22 April.

"We are a bit put out today and so is he because talk that he is going to be out for the rest of the season or even for the World Cup is really premature," Curbishley told reporters.

"We think he has got a good chance of coming back before the end of the season, around the time of the FA Cup semi-final if we get through or for the Bolton game (on 22 April).

"He is seeing a specialist this afternoon and we are hopeful he is going to be not too far away." Young will definitely miss Wednesday's FA Cup replay at Middlesbrough.

England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson names his FIFA World Cup squad on 8 May.
