Beckenbauer congratulates 14 new FIFA World Cup participants
Congratulations on qualifying and a warm welcome to the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany! Franz Beckenbauer has written personally to the 14 national teams and their respective football associations who booked their tickets to the FIFA World Cup this weekend. The OC President's congratulations went out to England, Italy, Croatia, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Paraguay, Ecuador, African representatives Angola, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Togo and Tunisia as well as the third CONCACAF participants Costa Rica.
The President of the Organising Committee will continue his welcome tour at the end of October, having already paid a visit to the Asian qualifying nations (Iran, Japan, Saudi-Arabia and South Korea).
The second leg concentrates on the first European qualifiers with a FIFA World Cup reception in Lisbon on the itinerary for 24 October 2005. The following day will take Beckenbauer to Rome along with Rudi Völler, who played for AS Roma between 1987 and 1992, scoring 45 goals in Serie A. Beckenbauer will finish the European tour on 31 October in Ukraine.
