Kiwis book ticket to Chile

New Zealand are the latest qualifier for the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile but only after surviving a tense penalty shoot-out win over Tahiti in the Oceania final.

The Kiwis seemed set to edge through thanks to Logan Rogerson’s goal on the hour mark in the continental final played in Pago Pago, American Samoa.

However, after Connor Probert missed a penalty for New Zealand, Tahiti drew level with nine minutes remaining through Honoarii Kohumoetini.

The match went straight to penalties with New Zealand prevailing 5-4 after goalkeeper Michael Woud saved the first spot-kick.

New Zealand will now be participating in the U-17 World Cup for the fifth successive time.
