Korea Republic sufficiently nullified an energetic Haiti side to capture a 2-1 victory on Sunday in Group C play at the FIFA U-17 World Cup Brazil 2019™. The Taeguk Warriors capitalised on a goalkeeping mistake to take the lead in the 26th minute and added another to their tally 15 minutes later by forcing a turnover, earning a lead they would not relinquish.

A Eom Jisung free-kick, taken 10 yards from the right corner of the penalty area, was so tantalising that it caught Stephner Paul flat-footed. The Haiti goalkeeper sensed the danger too late, and the ball nestled into the back corner of the net. Opportunism was the Taeguk Warriors' forte in the match; Choi Minseo's first-time finish in the 41st minute was the product of Korea Republic winning the ball back in a dangerous area.

Haiti were lively from the start, buoyed by hundreds of supporters on their side at the Estadio da Serrinha. A snapping Maudwindo Germain header in the 22nd minute forced a spectacular save from Shin Songhoon. Subdued by their opponent for most of the second half, Carl Sainte's 88th-minute laser-like strike from outside the box breathed a second wind into his team and the crowd, but they could not equalise before the final whistle.
