Pot allocation

  • The 24 teams were allocated a pot based on their ranking as determined by their performances at the last five editions of the FIFA U-17 World Cup (2009, 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017).

  • The points obtained at each of these five editions were added up, with progressively less value given to the older editions. For example, a 100 per cent weighting was applied to the 2017 points total, but only 20 per cent to that of 2009.

  • Those teams who qualified as continental champions were awarded five additional points.

  • The top five ranked teams were placed in Pot 1 with hosts Brazil; the next six sides went into Pot 2, and so on until all four pots had six teams each.

Draw format

  • Brazil, as hosts, will automatically be assigned the A1 slot.

  • Each of the six groups (named A to F) will have four teams.

  • There cannot be more than one team from each confederation in any one group.
