Ronaldo and the trophy, face-to-face

When it comes to football, there is very little that can catch Cristiano Ronaldo off guard. The Portuguese, who was recently named The Best FIFA Men’s Player of 2016, has graced the greatest stadiums in the world, showcasing his skills and goalscoring ability wherever he goes and collecting countless trophies in the process.

Not even Ronaldo has seen everything, however. And today, with just 100 days to go before the start of the FIFA Confederations Cup Russia 2017, we catch CR7 unawares by bringing him face-to-face with the trophy that will be presented to the winning side in Russia on 2 July.

Yes, that’s right! Much to his surprise, we unveiled the trophy, which has only been touched by the competition’s previous winners, to the Portugal captain. We just happened to catch his reaction on video, and took the opportunity to ask him about his expectations ahead the tournament and the somewhat curious reason why he would avoid touching the trophy ahead of the final in St Petersburg, should his team get that far.

Russia 2017 kicks off on 17 June, when the hosts take on New Zealand in the opening match in Group A, which also features reigning European champions Portugal and Mexico, who face off the following day. Meanwhile, Group B features Cameroon, Chile, Australia and Germany.
