Tunisian derby headlines last-eight draw

  • Draw made for this month’s CAF Champions League quarter-finals

  • Six former champions feature in last-eight

  • Winner to feature at 2018 FIFA Club World Cup

The CAF Champions League quarter-finals draw was made on Monday with several fascinating match-ups in store later this month.

Arguably the headline contest is the Tunisian derby between Esperance and Etoile du Sahel, with both former African champions.

Record eight-time winners Al Ahly will take on Guinea outsiders Horoya, with the Egyptian heavyweights seeking to atone for last year’s defeat in the final.

Reigning champions Wydad Casablanca of Morocco and Algeria’s ES Setif is another mouthwatering high-profile pairing.

Angola’s Primeiro de Agosto, who are making their first last-eight appearance in nine years, will tackle 2015 champions TP Mazembe.

First leg ties will be played on 14-15 September with return legs a week later.

The winner will represent Africa at December’s FIFA Club World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
