Boca Juniors defy Palmeiras to set up Superclásico final
Boca Juniors reach first Copa Libertadores for six years
They will face River Plate in first-ever Superclásico decider
Winner will represent South America in next month’s Club World Cup
Boca Juniors withstood a brief Palmeiras comeback to secure a 4-2 aggregate victory in Brazil and set-up a mouth-watering Copa Libertadores final against Buenos Aires rivals River Plate.
Boating a 2-0 lead from the first leg, Boca extended their advantage during the first half with a close-range strike from Ramon Abila in Sao Paulo.
Palmeiras finally got their reward for some impressive football as quickfire goals from Luan and Gustavo Gomez dragged Luis Felipe Scolari’s side back into the tie early in the second half.
However, first-leg hero Dario Benedetto squared the score on the night with a sweet long-range effort to effectively end the contest with 20 minutes remaining.
Boca will be aiming for a seventh title and first since 2012 when they line up against River Plate later this month in the first Superclásico final.
The winner will represent South America in the FIFA Club World Cup UAE 2018.
