Cristiano cracks another milestone

  • Cristiano Ronaldo is the first player to score 100 UEFA Champions League goals

  • The Portuguese forward scored five over two legs against Bayern Munich to help Real Madrid progress

  • Real Madrid are the first club to reach the UEFA Champions League semi-finals seven times in succession

Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo ticked off yet another major milestone on Tuesday as his side secured a dramatic extra-time win over Bayern Munich to advance to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.

The reigning The Best FIFA Men’s Player of the Year scored a hat-trick to become the first player to score 100 Champions League goals. It was Ronaldo’s sixth Champions League treble, one behind Barcelona forward Lionel Messi who has tallied 94 goals in the competition.

Ronaldo, who scored both goals for Real in the first leg, drew his side level on the night midway through the second half, before scoring twice in five extra-time minutes to seal the contest.

The Portuguese, who now has eight goals against Bayern, is the third player to score a hat-trick against the German heavyweights in the Champions League after Roy Makaay (Deportivo La Coruna) and Sergio Aguero (Manchester City).

Last week Ronaldo became the first to the century in all European competitions, with his tally including two in the UEFA Super Cup.

With the victory, Real have now reached a reach record-breaking seven successive semi-finals, eclipsing the previous mark set by Barcelona (2007/08 - 2012/13).

Atletico Madrid won the other semi-final on Tuesday with a 2-1 aggregate win over Leicester City.

The other two semi-finalists will be determined on Wednesday when Monaco host Borussia Dortmund (first leg: 3-2) and Barcelona welcome Juventus (0-3).
