FIFA Club World Cup Welcome Tour kicks off in Yokohama
The Welcome Tour for the FIFA Club World Cup presented by TOYOTA will start on 20 October in Yokohama, the city where the trophy was handed over to current champions Corinthians of Brazil in 2012. Over the coming weeks, the trophy will travel around the world, a trip that will take in the cities of this year’s participants Auckland, Belo Horizonte, Monterrey and Munich, as well as those of the Asian and African champions, before it reaches Casablanca, Morocco, representing the host nation, just a few days before the opening match in Agadir on 11 December.
The centrepiece of the global Welcome Tour is the FIFA Club World Cup trophy, which will be displayed in the cities of seven participating clubs and provide the public with a unique opportunity to experience the prized cup that will be awarded to the FIFA Club World Cup winners in Marrakech on 21 December. The tour will also feature an exhibition of the Champions badge, which will be worn by the reigning champions for one year, and football fans will also have an opportunity to discover facts and figures from past competitions and to learn more about this unique intercontinental club tournament.
"The Welcome Tour is a fantastic opportunity to bring the FIFA Club World Cup to the thousands of passionate fans of all the qualified teams. This is the first time that this ambitious project has been undertaken and I would like to thank each of the participating clubs for their tremendous support in helping FIFA realise this initiative. The aim of the tour is to reach their fans, who will experience the excitement of seeing their beloved team on a global platform,” said FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter.
