The Best FIFA Football Awards™ and the stars of the game to return to London in 2018

The Best FIFA Football Awards – a star-studded night celebrating football’s greatest – will return to London on 24 September 2018. Legends of the game from across the world will gather later this year in the iconic city for the third edition of the prestigious event.

The awards return to London for the second year in a row following last year’s glittering event, in which Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo picked up The Best FIFA Men’s Player, the Netherlands’ Lieke Martens was crowned The Best FIFA Women’s Player, French icon Zinedine Zidane was named The Best FIFA Men's Coach and the Netherlands’ Sarina Wiegman was awarded the trophy for The Best FIFA Women’s Coach.

In a FIFA World Cup™ year, the awards will take on added significance in 2018, as football’s greatest players and coaches from all six continents strive to be crowned The Best.

“As a passionate football city in a nation with a strong footballing heritage, London will once again prove to be an excellent destination to host The Best FIFA Football Awards, and we are excited to return after the success of last year’s second edition. With the 2018 FIFA World Cup showcasing football’s finest across Russia this summer, there is everything to play for, making this year’s awards a truly exceptional occasion,” said FIFA Deputy Secretary General (Football) Zvonimir Boban.

A total of nine trophies will be presented at the awards ceremony:

  • The Best FIFA Men’s Player 2018

  • The Best FIFA Women’s Player 2018

  • The Best FIFA Men’s Coach 2018

  • The Best FIFA Women’s Coach 2018

  • The Best FIFA Goalkeeper Award 2018

  • The FIFA Puskás Award 2018

  • The FIFA Fair Play Award 2018

  • The FIFA Fan Award 2018

  • FIFA FIFPro World11

Once again, the fans at the heart of the game will play an active role in deciding the men’s and women’s players and coaches of the year. Winners will be chosen by a process involving stakeholders from across the world of football, including players, coaches, fans and media.

  • 25% of the result will be based on the choices of the captains of all of the world’s national teams.

  • 25% of the result will be based on the choices of the head coaches of all of the world’s national teams.

  • 25% of the result will be based on a public ballot of football fans on FIFA.com.

  • 25% of the result will be based on submissions from a selected group of more than 200 media representatives from around the world.

Ten candidates will be shortlisted for the following four awards and will be unveiled in late July 2018, with voting opening the same day the candidates are announced for;

  • The Best FIFA Women’s Coach 2018

  • The Best FIFA Men’s Coach 2018

  • The Best FIFA Men’s Player 2018

  • The Best FIFA Women’s Player 2018

Voting for the above four categories will remain open until 10 August, with the three finalists of these awards announced in September.
