Team-mates for club and country, Wendie Renard and Amandine Henry also share the honour of being among the twelve nominees for The Best FIFA Women’s Player award. The duo have had outstanding campaigns with Olympique Lyonnais and France, the teams they respectively captain.

FIFA.com looks back at their seasons, which have been high on trophies and excitement.

It was business as usual for Lyon in 2019, as they extended their unprecedented reign over French women’s football by winning the league title for the 13th time in a row and the Coupe de France, a trophy that had escaped their grasp in 2018. Unbeaten throughout the season, Reynald Pedros’ charges conceded only two draws and finished five points clear of closest challengers Paris Saint-Germain.

Henry and Renard had a big hand to play in Lyon’s latest league triumph. The midfielder’s outstanding performances led to her earning one of the five nominations for the Women’s Player of the Year award presented by the National Professional Footballers’ Union. For Renard's part, the centre-half had her usual impact at the heart of a defence that let in only six goals all season, while also helping herself to eight goals to finish among the league’s top ten scorers.

The two also starred in the Coupe de France, not least in the 3-1 defeat of Lille in the final, with Henry opening the scoring with a free-kick and Renard killing the game off with a late penalty.

Lyon won the Champions League for the fourth time running and completed the league, Coupe de France and Champions League treble for the fourth time in their history. It was the sixth time Renard has lifted the Champions League trophy and the fifth for Henry, who was playing in the NWSL when Lyon conquered Europe in 2017.

Following Lyon’s latest glorious campaign, Henry finished in the top three for the UEFA Women’s Player of the Year award for a record fourth time.

Following their dream club season, the two Lyon players went in search of FIFA Women’s World Cup™ glory on home soil with France. Sadly for them, Les Bleues fell short on the international stage, losing to the USA in the quarter-finals, as Renard and Henry remain in search for a trophy with the national team.

The Best FIFA Women’s Player candidates could be proud of their efforts, however. Renard was twice voted Player of the Match, against Korea Republic and Nigeria, and again showcased her composure in front of goal by scoring four times.

As for Henry, she made her mark by scoring the extra-time goal that gave France victory over Brazil in the last 16 and ended the competition with two goals and an assist to her name.
