Basic Information:

  • Founded in: 2000
  • Located in: Lima, Peru

Short Description:
With more than 1400 kids in five "Sport and Life" schools and hundreds of children involved in other street football tournaments, Escuelas Deporte y Vida (a programme of Pro Niño Intimo ) teach and promote the values of solidarity, social cohesion and team spirit in Lima and across Peru. Through their enthusiasm for football, disadvantaged children and young people are motivated to learn for school. The schools achieve a positive re-integration of the children in the educative system, reaching a drop-out rate of 0% and are forming young leaders recognised on a local scale and in neighbourhood communities. Tutors help with their homework; there are theatre, music and dance courses as well as opportunities for psychological care and food aid. The number of local street football leagues has been increasing rapidly since 2000, including short tournaments and weekly league play for youth teams.

Escuelas Deporte y Vida, a member of the streetfootballworld network since 2005, is active in promoting and expanding the South American street football philosophy "Fútbol Callejero" throughout Peru. The organisation's football programmes are complimented by a series of workshops on the method for players and trainers alike, which serve as a stage for constructive, mutual exchange of know-how.

Target Group:

  • Children and youths from Lima's poorest districts

Thematic Field:

  • Children's Rights and Education

Support in the Framework of the Football for Hope Movement:
With the support of Football for Hope, a national network of Development through Football organisations will be created. Through this network, Escuelas Deporte y Vida (a programme of Pro Niño Intimo) will have the opportunity to share their knowledge and expertise on the use of football as a social tool with other parts of Peru. Twelve communities in Peru are being targeted, where street football tournaments will be held on a regular basis. Through these tournaments social community initiatives are promoted to construct a positive neighbourhood and promote active social citizenship. Beside the creation of a national network, Pro Niño Intimo will also actively cooperate and contribute to the continental South American network.

In 2006, Football for Hope supported the coaching exchange between Escuelas Deporte y Vida and its Colombian counterpart in the South American Street Football Network, Con-texto Urbano.
