Diego Forlan was last week soaking up the sunshine in the picturesque Uruguayan resort of Punta del Este. This one, the 34-year-old forward will return to Brazil during its sizzling summer to begin pre-season training with Internacional.

It hasn’t always been fun in the sun for Forlan during the Southern Hemisphere summer, however – as the above picture shows. The man who inspired Uruguay to fourth place at the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™, and won the adidas Golden Ball in the process, was representing his country in a March 2011 friendly in Estonia, where temperatures plummeted to minus-six Celsius!

Forlan falling face-first into the snow summed up Uruguay’s night in Tallinn – the South American giants were upset 2-0 by the Baltic minnows.

The former Independiente, Manchester United, Villarreal, Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan player should have more important international work on the horizon. And Forlan will hope the fact he’s among the minority based in Brazil will give him an advantage at the 20th World Cup.
