FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter has written to The Football Association Chairman David Bernstein to express his sadness at the passing of former referee Jack Taylor. The Englishman, who oversaw the 1974 FIFA World Cup™ Final, died on Friday at the age of 82.

“Jack Taylor was one of the great figures of refereeing of his time thanks to his authority and the bravery of his decision-making, and was also an important role model for top officials in today’s football,” wrote Blatter.

“He also continued to contribute to the game after his retirement from officiating and was recognised for his work at the 1999 FIFA World Player Gala.”
