The city of Zurich has been eagerly counting down the days until the 74th edition of the prestigious Blue Stars/FIFA Youth Cup kicks off in the Swiss metropolis on 16-17 May. Once again the most promising talents from several of the world’s top clubs will descend on the Buchlern sports ground. Needless to say, excitement is building by the day.

Will FC Porto be able to defend their title? Or will one of the other illustrious clubs take the crown this time? The vibrant city has been abuzz with anticipation for days, and it is little wonder, as everyone is enthusiastically drumming up business for the annual tournament. The showcase of football’s rough diamonds is gearing up to be a must-see event.

The Blue Stars/FIFA Youth Cup 2012 even featured prominently during the Swiss Super League match between FC Zurich and FC Basel last weekend. Youth team players distributed approximately 900 programs and 5,000 flyers prior to kick-off at the Letzigrund stadium, while a mascot ensured a good atmosphere in the stands during the game.

A live half-time interview with FC Blue Stars’ president Jurg Hofmann, as well as the frequent messages on the big screen announcing the imminent start of the competition had everyone talking about the eagerly awaited event at the Buchlern sport complex.

Come along to Zurich on 16-17 May to witness some of the best young talents in the world in action. Gripping encounters such as Panathinaikos against Borussia Monchengladbach, Besiktas versus Zenit St. Petersburg and FC Zurich taking on defending champions Porto promise top quality football and plenty of excitement.

"The BSFYC is always a nice tournament in which top clubs participate. When I played I scored the decisive goal in the final. I will have the tournament always on my mind. It's a good opportunity for young players and I'm already curious who will win this year", said 2009 Blue Stars veteran Xherdan Shaqiri, who will play for Bayern Munich in Germany next season.

David Beckham, Josep Guardiola, Ryan Giggs, Jay-Jay Okocha and Kaka are only some of the stars to have played at the Blue Stars/FIFA Youth Cup before becoming world renowned players. Who will be next? Come along on 16-17 May and find out for yourself. We look forward to your visit!
