The world of junior football will once again turn its attention to Zurich on 16-17 May as the annual Blue Stars/FIFA Youth Cup takes place in the Swiss metropolis. Some of the biggest clubs from Greece, Portugal, Turkey, DR Congo, Germany, Russia and Switzerland will be represented in the 74th edition of the tournament, which offers top-quality action and entertainment under the motto ‘Where stars are born’.

Defending champions FC Porto are preparing to take on a field including four teams who have never taken part in the Blue Stars/FIFA Youth Cup previously. Panathinaikos, Zenit St. Petersburg, Borussia Monchengladbach and top African club TP Mazembe, whose senior side won the 2009 and 2010 CAF Champions League and took part at the FIFA Club World Cup, will all make their competition debuts at the Buchlern sports complex.

Meanwhile Besiktas, renowned for being one of Turkey’s top talent factories, are competing for a third time. BSC Young Boys, Grasshoppers Zurich and last year’s finalists FC Zurich, as well as hosts FC Blue Stars, join them in what promises to be an intriguing group stage.

Aside from football, there will also be an extensive entertainment programme for both children and adults to look forward to, not to mention an array of culinary delights.

The Blue Stars/FIFA Youth Cup offers fans the chance to get a sneak peak of tomorrow's stars. Just some of the household names to have played at the tournament in the past include David Beckham, Josep Guardiola, Ryan Giggs, Jay-Jay Okocha and Kaka.

Only players born after 1 January 1992 are eligible to play.
