The top goalkeeper at the ongoing FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Marseille 2008 will be the first recipient of the 'Golden Glove', a brand new award honouring outstanding No1s at FIFA tournaments.

The gold and copper model is based on the popular adidas Fingersave glove, which is used by top goalkeepers such as Edwin van der Sar and benefits from state-of-the-art technology such as individual, exchangeable spines, providing extra punching power, protection and comfort.

One of these very gloves was used as the casting model for the trophy, which was first covered with a stable copper layer and later galvanised with gold. The trophy weighs 5kg and measures in at 40cm in height and 20cm in width.

Spain's Roberto Valeiro, Andrey Bukhlitskiy of Russia, Argentina's Marcelo Salgueiro and Salvadoran Luis Rodas are considered among the early frontrunners to be the Golden Glove's first recipients of at Marseille 2008, which reaches its conclusion this Sunday.
