FIFA announced today that Ali Mohamed BUJSAIM (UAE) has been selected to referee the opening match of the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan between world champion France and World Cup newcomers Senegal on 31 May at Seoul World Cup Stadium in Korea.

A widely respected and highly experienced match official, the 42-year old BUJSAIM made his debut as an international referee in 1990. His impressive international credentials include experience in the last two FIFA World Cup competitions, the FIFA Confederations Cup Korea/Japan 2001, the FIFA World Youth Championship Portugal 1991, the 1992 Olympic Football Tournament, and three editions of both the Asian Cup and African Cup of Nations.
BUJSAIM is well accustomed to high-profile matches, having officiated notable matches such as the Final of the FIFA Confederations Cup Korea/Japan 2001, a semi-final of the FIFA World Cup France 1998 and the Third Place Match of the FIFA World Cup USA 1994.
Of the 72 FIFA World Cup match officials, BUJSAIM is the only referee to appear in his third straight FIFA World Cup.
