Having failed to get the executive body reinstated by the deadline imposed by FIFA (18 March 2001), the Football Association of Guinea continues to be suspended and now has officially been eliminated from the 2002 FIFA World Cup(TM).

Further decisions regarding the re-scheduling of World Cup qualification matches in the CAF Group E will be announced in due course.

FIFA regrets that the persons and institutions in Guinea have not been ready to implement the necessary measures to bring about normalisation to football in Guinea.

The elimination from the World Cup now decided by FIFA is motivated by logistical constraints regarding the schedule of qualifying matches.

The executive body of the Guinea FA had been dissolved by the Guinean Sports Ministry at the end of January 2001. FIFA had then been forced to suspend the association as of 2 March from all international football activities with immediate effect and until further notice. Due to the suspension, Guinea was not able to contest the final of the U-17 African Championship. All other Guinean representative teams as well as club sides are suspended from participating in international competitions or friendlies as well.
